six weeks after giving birth to my darling daughter, Amandla, my daughter's father and i decided to end our relationship and i embarked on my journey of single motherhood, while also battling severe postpartum depression.
while I had the privilege of having the extended support system of family and friends, as well as commercial health insurance through my employer, I struggled to find resources to help me get through my darkest moments. i was forced to make decisions that either risked our financial stability or my mental health. by nothing short of a miracle, i was able to make it through.
now on the other side, i'm determined to help support mothers through the increasingly difficult burdens of parenting black and brown children through the delivery of financial support and the delivery of culturally specific emotional resources.
